Freestyle skiing has traditionally included moguls and aerials, but the
sport is ever-evolving. Freestyle skiing today encompasses these
traditional events, along with dual moguls, slopestyle, and halfpipe.
Additionally, Freeride continues to push the limits of the
sport in big mountain riding and urban jibbing.
The Loon Mountain Freestyle Ski Team offers training programs for
competent intermediate and and expert skiers, ages 7 years to 18 years
old. An interest in skiing moguls and taking big air is all you need to
join our team. Training is geared toward both ability and age -
competition is optional. Skiers who choose to compete may compete in
each discipline separately, or in all events. Successful competition
can lead to invitations to regional and national championship events.
Past members of the Loon Mountain Freestyle Ski Team have represented
the Team at the U.S. National Championships, competed at the World Cup
level, and even gone on to win Olympic gold. Competition is encouraged
and supported but is not required. Most of all, we want our members to
improve their skiing and to have fun.
The Loon Mountain Freestyle Ski Team training program is open to any
competent skier who is interested in learning the fundamentals of
Freestyle skiing. Beginning with the basic skills, team members receive
instruction in moguls, terrain park air and upright aerial jumping in
an atmosphere of sportsmanship, camaraderie and fun. The skills
acquired prepare team members to participate in regional freestyle
skiing competitions.
Advanced training and competition skills are offered to the more
experienced skier who has demonstrated the ability to ski moguls and
who has had exposure to terrain park air, free skiing and upright
aerial jumping.
The Loon Mountain Freestyle Ski Team trains every weekend day, holiday,
and during public school vacations (except Christmas Day and New
Year's Day) starting Thanksgiving weekend and running through late
March. Training (Snowtime) is from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with a
break for lunch. Skiers train in small groups,
typically a 1:4 coach to athlete ratio. Groups are
determined by coaches based on age and ability. We are
committed to providing . For more information on our coaches, please
